Have you ever felt truly stupid? Well, I have, like the day Iraq invaded Kuwait and I misheard the TV announcer as saying "Uruguay". Fear trumped geography. Incidentally, this is the first time I remember hearing about a war breaking out during my lifetime. Of course, there were other conflicts of different calibers before that, but I was way too young. The invasion of Panama was in 1989, but I don't remember hearing about it until later, honestly.

This strip's music is "This Is What We Do", by MC Hammer, from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie soundtrack. I had the cassette, and it got plenty of play that year.

Yeah, that's about the age you start noticing such stuff. For my part, being almost 20 years older than you, the first war I remember was the Yom Kippur war in 1973. Of course the Vietnam war had been on for pretty much my whole life - but it HAD exactly been going on for my whole life and I guess I just took it as one of the constants of life (sunrise, sunset and the war in Vietnam). It wasn't really till the mid-nineties, when Discovery sent a series about the war, that I gained any kind of overview of what happened and what it was all about.
